Weekend (and beyond)
assignments
Mrs. Topham

E3H:

- WW:
- Revise
your Frozen Moment piece and bring it in to school on Tuesday.* You are not required to take it beyond
a second draft, but you certainly may do so, and many people do, even at
times “unfreezing” it and making it a part of a larger piece.
- Compose a
piece of your own design, prose, poem, vignette, or whatever. Bring two copies of that for
conferencing on Tuesday.
- Lit:
- On
the bulletin boards, join in ongoing discussions (now until Wednesday)
about the various poems in Chapter Five of your book. Check in again and again and whack
these poems wherever they take you.
Post seriously, though: quote from the poems or other posts, and don’t
just dash things off. No one-line posts!
E2H:
- RW:
- WW:
- Compose
an Emily Dickinson parody poem based on any Dickinson poem other than “Faith is a
Fine Invention” (too short). Try to
mimic the stylistic devices of her writing. Then post the poem online (the board is
already there: “Dickinson Parodies” under “Writing Workshop”). Throughout the weekend, check back and
give feedback to others about how well their poems fit work as parodies
of Dickinson. (There are instructions on the board.)
- Compose a
piece of your own design, prose, poem, vignette, or whatever. Bring two copies of that for
conferencing on Tuesday.
- Lit:
- In
the board called Dickinson Poems (under “Poetry”), participate in an
ongoing discussion about the various Dickinson poems we have read,
focusing primarily on the one you have selected but adding to other conversations
as you can. Your eventual goal is
going to be an essay on one poem.
CW:
- Online:
- Compose
and post a poem of your choice under the “First Poems” board. This may be but does not have to be the “Walk”
poem. Check back
- Additional:
- Email
me a copy of your conflict story
at cw@sunspark.com
- Bring
a book on Monday
- Compose a
piece of your own design, prose, poem, vignette, or whatever. Bring two copies of that for
conferencing on Wednesday, as you have Counselor Seminars on Tuesday.
* In any revision, highlight the changes you
have made and write down the specific explanation of your goals for your
changes. (You may do this in bullet
points at the top or bottom of your piece or you can hand-print it near the
changes themselves.)
